Biscuit coins

I had this strange thought the other day: why are coins always made in that "flat cylinder" shape? And what would happen if they were roughly flat, but took on a more 3-Dimensional form?
What if coins were in fact modelled on biscuits - i.e. smaller, scaled down replicas made of metal? I'd make the following biscuit allocations:
1p - shortcake
2p - digestive
5p - rich tea
10p - nice
20p - hob-nob
50p - bourbon
1 Pound - custard cream
2 Pound - jammy dodger
