Why is it called Lettuce?

No particular reason, other than I like lettuce.

Why create Lettuce?

I wanted a home automation system that would not require excessive wiring.

Why not use X10?

X10 would probably have allowed me to achive some of what I wanted, however, I wanted something a bit more flexible and reliable.
